The Caritas Romana, a work of 1643 by the painter Artemisia Gentileschi was about to be sold at auction, as had happened to another painting by the same artist, which was awarded a few months ago to a collector for 1.8 million. The carabinieri of the Nucleo protecting the cultural heritage of Bari, however, arrived before the seventeenth-century painting (a 121×147 oil on canvas depicting the story of Cimone and Pero and worth at least 2 million euros) was sold in Austria and they seized and brought back to Italy: in Bari, from where he will return to his home of origin, the Marchione di Conversano castle.
