Chongli, China – With the ski industry booming, Chongli can still tap its potential—Exclusive interview with Qi Hong, chairman of Taiwu Ski Town

The ski industry in the Winter Olympics town of Chongli has exploded, attracting a total of 2.5 million tourists since the start of the snow season. Qi Hong, chairman of Chongli Taiwu Ski Town, sat down for an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency reporters, shedding light on the booming state of the ski industry and the potential for further growth in Chongli.

Qi Hong attributes the explosive growth in Chongli’s ski industry to three main factors. Firstly, the impact of the pandemic has led to a surge in people planning vacations and seeking new experiences like skiing. Secondly, the Beijing Winter Olympics has driven an “ice and snow fever,” enticing those who have never experienced ice and snow sports to explore them. Lastly, the infrastructure in Chongli has greatly improved in recent years, with the growth of high-speed railways, expressways, and other means of transport helping to accommodate the influx of tourists.

The snow season has seen explosive growth in terms of the number of tourists and operating income. The image of Chongli Ski Resort has improved significantly, as have the popularity of many ski resorts in the area.

As one of the largest high-end skiing areas in China, Chongli has seven large ski resorts. This influx of tourists has prompted many resorts, including Taiwu Ski Town, to launch new products and consumption scenarios, such as the expansion of room capacity and improvements in catering conditions and activity venues.

Taiwu Ski Town has also focused on improving the skiing experience by enhancing its snowmaking and snow-pressing capabilities and adding trendy terrains to its snow trails. Additionally, the resort has introduced dozens of mass skiing events and activities in collaboration with the Bulgarian and Chinese teams.

Looking toward the future, Qi Hong believes that “synergy” is the key to Chongli’s development potential, emphasizing the importance of maintaining each ski resort’s unique characteristics and strengthening their synergy, rather than engaging in price wars.

Furthermore, he highlighted the potential for Chongli’s development in the summer by focusing on outdoor activities and building the town’s brand as an “Outdoor Paradise.”

With the continued growth and development of the ski industry in Chongli, it is clear that the Winter Olympics have brought about not only immediate benefits but also long-term potential for the region.
