25 beds for ordinary short-term hospitalization are activated in the new spaces, of which 15 are currently inserted in the context of the homogeneous surgical hospitalization area on the 2nd floor and 10 newly activated on the 3rd floor. CASTELFRANCO. Ribbon cutting at the Iov of Castelfranco Veneto for the new “Week Surgery” department to perform invasive and semi-invasive surgical and therapeutic diagnostic procedures that require limited hospitalization.

The rationale is based on a weekly distribution of surgical and assistance activities, with the advantage of making the organization and response to the patient more appropriate.

The department is open from Monday to Friday, it closes on weekends and public holidays. The inauguration this morning was attended by the Director General of the Iov Patrizia Benini, the director of the Surgery Department of the Iov Pierluigi Pilati, the Councilor for Health, Social Services and Social and Health Planning of the Veneto Region Manuela Lanzarin and the mayor of the City of Castelfranco Veneto Stefano Marcon.

“Week Surgery is an organization model of elective surgery, of low or medium complexity, aimed at carefully selected patients, to whom appropriate services are provided, limiting their stay in hospital with a series of indisputable advantages, and guaranteeing to the organization a greater rationalization of resources, both human and material. The activation of the department dedicated to ordinary short-term hospitalization – underlined Dr. Pilati – will help to strengthen the surgical model for intensity of care in which medium and low complexity activities can be carried out in a continuum between Week Surgery and Day Surgery, with dedicated staff and in environments separated from the ordinary, complex ones “.

25 beds for ordinary short-term hospitalization are activated in the new spaces, of which 15 are currently inserted in the context of the homogeneous surgical hospitalization area on the 2nd floor and 10 newly activated on the 3rd floor. The beds are multidisciplinary or related to esophageal and digestive tract surgery, oncological urology, endocrine surgery, breast surgery.

In consideration of the increase in beds in the surgical area, the Institute has planned the increase in ordinary surgical activities by means of the increase in weekly operating sessions and the reorganization of the pre-hospitalization activity, which will see the establishment of two dedicated daily clinics. In order to ensure the sustainability of the sessions, the acquisition of additional specialist medical personnel and the sector is envisaged.
The acquisition of the new spaces of the Week Surgery and a revision of the internal organization of the departments already active allow the Institute to immediately make additional beds available for the surgical activity, but also to have prepared the expansion of the surgical activity in a later stage. Likewise, a reorganization of the internal oncology area is made possible, which will see an increase in the number of beds for the specialties of Oncology and Onco-hematology.
“The interventions carried out in Week Surgery allow scheduled hospitalizations, following standardized and guided paths, leading to a reduction in the risk of nosocomial complications, better appropriateness of use of the different levels of care due to the complexity of the cases, rationalization of the use of the operating block, streamlining of the lists of wait. After all, the appropriateness – highlighted the dg Benini – is declined, in addition to the clinic, in the organization: the multidisciplinary Week Surgery, at the service of multiple surgical specialties and characterized by elective hospitalizations of less than or equal to five days, it will accompany the traditional surgical hospitalization. Its development has been favored by the introduction of modern minimally invasive and anesthetic surgical techniques which have allowed a net reduction in the average post-operative hospitalization times. The professionalism and technology present at the Iov make it possible to make the most of this additional opportunity, to give an ever better response to care needs “.
