Atac, 1,200 absences for Covid and the Capitol announces new hires

by admin

Addressing the gaps in the workforce that have been created due to Covid infections with a new injection of hires, in a company that already has over 11 thousand employees. It is a strategy that could characterize Atac, the Rome transport company which, between infections and quarantines, reached 1,200 absent, over 10% of employees.

The commissioner for transport Patanè (Pd): immediately new hires

A number that, if at the moment did not put the service in crisis (the inconveniences were limited to some missed races), certainly alerted both the management of the ATAC and the Capitol. “The company must also be ready to deal with any emergency situations,” said CEO Franco Giampaoletti. And the councilor for transport Eugenio Patanè (Pd) immediately proposed new hires, saying no “to hiring temporary workers or buffer solutions” and also speaking of “public selections quickly”.

The hypothesis of fielding the army

However, how to deal with the simultaneous “unavailability” of so many employees has become a matter of debate. The general manager of Atac explained that “organizational hypotheses are being studied in order to be able to cope with a quota of absences that could significantly affect the provision of continuity of the service”. One of these, “still under study” is a possible collaboration between institutions to “find personnel with the necessary qualifications”. Among the entities in question, the army would also have been thought of, but the proposal to put the military at the helm of the buses does not convince either the Gualtieri junta or the prefecture.

But the commissioner for Transport Patanè is not at all on the same line: “I am not passionate about either the temporary searches for workers, or buffer and emergency solutions – he clarified -. I prefer stable solutions, through public selections to be put in place quickly even through the scrolling of already existing rankings, given that we know perfectly well that around 180 workers will retire in the course of 2022 “. Atac, according to the Campidoglio estimates, needs to hire 150-200 drivers every year: “If we want public transport to work, the staff must be specifically qualified for the Tpl”, continued Patané.

The Ama case, the municipal waste management system

And in Ama, the municipal company that deals with waste in the city, to date there are 300 positive cases, 4% of the total. The company has highlighted that at the moment there are no “reasons for alarm”, but in the meantime it has activated a rapid mobile screening service, via camper, to monitor the situation of infections and intercept any cases within its operating offices . In practice, workers can undergo a quick swab on a voluntary basis. The shifts in and out of the offices were “staggered with the attack and the end of the shift every 30 minutes, also avoiding the simultaneous access to the changing rooms of workers with nearby lockers – reported Ama -. To date, over 4 million masks have been distributed (more than half of which with high protection filter ffp2 and ffp3), more than 2 million and 600 thousand pairs of disposable gloves. Furthermore, the sanitation of heavy and light vehicles used for waste collection continues in a continuous cycle ».
