Authorities guarantee security for the Holy Week season in Popayán – news

The Police are preparing support devices to generate confidence, tranquility and security for the inhabitants of the region and the tourists who attend this celebration.

With 360 uniformed members of the National Police, security would be reinforced in Popayán, on the occasion of the celebration of its traditional Holy Week 2024.

This was announced by the commander of the Metropolitan Police, Colonel Miguel Andrés Camelo, in a preparatory meeting for this festivity called by the Municipal Administration, through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

“We are carrying out the procedures with our general director of the National Police, General William René Salamanca, with the aim of increasing the force in this capital for this important celebration,” said Colonel Camelo, who also added that, aware of the importance of this commemoration, all police support devices are being prepared to generate confidence, tranquility and security for all the inhabitants of the region and the tourists who attend this celebration.

Preparatory meeting for the celebration of Holy Week in Popayán, convened by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the municipality.

On the other hand, the Secretary of Culture and Tourism, Heidee Becerra, stated that “the meeting served for all entities, organizations, establishments, merchants and associations to articulate efforts and specify the details of the activities that are immersed in the development of the Holy Week and thus strengthen its realization.”

The event was attended by, among others, the social manager of the Municipality of Popayán, Yesenia Velasco and the representatives of the Religious Music Festival, Classical Music Festival, Holy Monday Processional Board, Permanent Pro Holy Week Board, Bello Pro Holy Week Board Horizonte, Western Holy Week Procession Board and the Chiquitas Processions, which are celebrating their 75 years.
