Farmer Pierluigi Golzio: “We risk not being saved, we’ve never seen anything like this in 50 years”
FAVRIA. The violent storm that hit several municipalities in the Upper Canavese on 20 June caused a flurry of damage. Dozens of requests for intervention from the fire brigade switchboard. There have been several roofless houses in Favria and Ozegna (Bogo area), numerous floods in the Rivarolo Canavese area. “In 50 years I have never seen such a thing – he says Pierluigi Golzio, farmer from Favria, associated with Coldiretti. In 5 minutes a whirlwind blew the tiles on our roof, moved the trailer about twenty meters, flooded the cellars, but above all it broke the corn. If he had only enticed it we could have saved something, instead he broke it in half and so we risk losing 90% of the harvest. Wild boars and crows were not enough, now bad weather too. We need the request for a state of calamity, otherwise this year we will not be saved ».
“As soon as they called us we came to see the damage – he says Massimo Ceresole, Coldiretti area secretary of Ivrea and Rivarolo Canavese – and the situation is truly dramatic. Many of our companies are affected by bad weather and we are taking action to assist them in requesting damages and in compiling the necessary documents to be presented in the municipalities ».
In Rivarolo a large tree has also fallen in Villa Vallero. Fortunately, no injuries were registered. The firefighters intervened with the help of about thirty volunteers of the Civil Protection for various floods and trees knocked down by the fury of the wind, but also for torn roofs, and roofs uncovered by tiles. In some areas of Rivarolo, electricity also went out due to a telephone service pole collapsed on the medium voltage line.
Numerous unsafe trees have been reported on the provincial road between Feletto and Agliè. A plant fell on the provincial road between Barbania and Front Canavese after the crossing with Vauda. Road closed pending removal. Other trees felled by the wind also in the Ciriacese area. Fortunately, no injuries were registered.
