(ANSA) – TUNIS, OCTOBER 25 – Three people died in Tunisia due to the heavy rains that hit the North African country last weekend. This was stated by the spokesman of the Tunisian Civil Protection, Moez Triaa, specifying that in Thala, in the north-west of the country, two young people aged 20 and 27 lost their lives after their car was swept away by the water. A 24-year-old died in the same circumstances in Borj Chakir, near the capital.
Tunisia is subject to seasonal flooding, the consequences of which are compounded by the fact that infrastructure is often dilapidated, with old and poorly functioning water drainage systems. In September 2020, six people, including three children, died from the intense rains, while in 2018 the victims were at least five. (HANDLE).
