From package for the second consecutive year, the Banchette red corn festival, a regional trade fair, usually held on the last Sunday in October. The Pignoletto rosso association that organizes the event, after a meeting with the Municipality, has decided to postpone it in the spring, Covid emergency permitting. «We do not have the strength and resources for the organization – explains Giampiero Cresto, president of Pignoletto rosso – which requires the checks of the Green pass for access to the fair, at the center of the festival. The number of volunteers has dropped, while even more would be needed. It is therefore better to wait for the end of the emergency for a return to normalcy. For an event like the red corn festival, avoiding gatherings is difficult. Initially we had thought of a reduced program compared to the traditional four days, thinking of setting up a market for typical products on Sundays. However, not being able to organize moments of tasting the dishes based on red corn polenta and the collateral moments that identify it, means distorting the essence of the festival ». The highlight day with the market of typical products of Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta usually attracts 150 producers, farmers, artisans, traders, antique dealers, along the axis of via Roma and via Circonvallazione. «The area should be bounded with access gates for the control of the Green pass – adds Cresto -. A job that the Civil Protection group alone is unable to carry out. The producers themselves, then, have shown us uncertainty ».

To support the event dedicated to the enhancement of red corn, one of the typical products of the Canavese area, included in the Basket of typical products of the province of Turin and of the ancient Piedmontese corn, there is usually also Confagricoltura, which had confirmed its participation. «Our goal – continues Cresto – is to keep firmly the characteristic of a regional fair event, which we have conquered with so much commitment. Instead of resizing it, we preferred to wait ».Lydia Massia
