Belluno, closed bailey bridge and no signs: traffic paralyzed throughout the city

The closure was announced by the municipality in early November. But at three weeks, many had probably forgotten it

BELLUNO. It is well known that the bailey bridge is a key infrastructure for traffic management in the city. It has proof every time it is closed. As happened today.

After two weeks in alternating directions, from today the bridge in Lambioi is completely closed for scheduled maintenance, without any signs indicating the novelty. Long queues formed around lunchtime, with motorists who, unaware of the closure, had headed to Lambioi to reach via Montegrappa and Castionese. The situation then precipitated in the evening: at 18 the traffic was completely paralyzed. On social networks, travel times were read from metropolis: 50 minutes from the swimming pool to the Conad roundabout, one hour Belluno – Castion, 45 minutes from the hospital to the swimming pool.

The closure was announced by the municipality at the beginning of November. But at three weeks, many had probably forgotten it. And there was no signage to remind him. So there is nothing left for motorists to do but queue. A long snake of cars last night walked at walking pace via Prade, the Maraga tunnel and via dei Dendrofori. All queued in front of the Lambioi swimming pool and car park, but also at the Conad roundabout, used by many vehicles for reversing.

Queues in via Miari, on the Dolomites bridge, in via Sarajevo, in via Lungardo. Many have decided to go as far as the San Felice bridge, between Trichiana and Sedico, to cross the Piave. More kilometers, but smooth.

The repercussions of the closure were also seen on the other streets of the city, because there are not many alternatives. In the evening there was also heavy traffic on the Ponte degli Alpini (an area already congested) and on the Ponte Nuovo.

The bailey bridge will remain closed completely until December 10, as maintenance work will take longer than Council planned.
