There are fewer and fewer grandparents vigilant, but the need for assistance and surveillance, especially outside schools, has not diminished. They will be covered by people engaged in socially useful jobs.

The local police asked the municipal social services to be able to employ fifteen people in this type of service. The brigade will take care of training and provide the necessary personal protective equipment, while the workers will take care of assistance in front of elementary and middle schools to inform motorists and help children also to extricate themselves in traffic.

“There are five or six watchful grandparents left,” explains the commander of the Local Police, Roberto Rossetti. “Too few for our needs. This is why we sought a solution ». Identified thanks to the project “A little help for greater safety”, through which fifteen people will be employed in front of the schools, during the students’ entry and exit times, but also during events (when they can be organized again).

Their role will be that of steward: they will give information, assist the children crossing the street, “they will not be able to regulate traffic because that competence belongs to the brigade”, explains Rossetti. The presence of these people, however, represents an element of safety especially for younger children.

The social inclusion project envisages the employment of fifteen people, who will provide assistance as close as possible to their residence or domicile to limit travel. They will serve in fifteen elementary and middle schools in the city for two hours a day.

People will be adequately trained and equipped with individual safety devices, such as a vest with reflective elements.

The project will end on December 31, but with the possibility of extending it again next year. –
