Belluno, short circuit in Lambioi: the park is zero waste but the kiosk manager has to put the bins

Bottles, plates and cartons found abandoned near the barbecues. “It took four hours to clean, more containers are needed”

BELLUNO. The Lambioi river park is zero waste. But the policy of not placing litter bins, promoted by Bellunum at the reopening of the area after the post-Vaia refurbishment works to educate citizens to sort rubbish and throw it into the bins at the park exit, did not work. “This is the situation I found this morning at the opening,” said Lucio Vallata, the manager of the kiosk and all the services of Lambioi beach yesterday morning.

Abandoned bottles, litter, paper and plastic plates, cartons full of empty beer bottles. All left next to the baskets placed by Vallata himself near the kiosk and the barbecues. “And then there are those who complain because we ask five euros to use the barbecues, clean: we do it precisely to cover the costs of cleaning, to ensure that the grills are also in order”.

The first night after the opening of the kiosk left the remains of moments of celebration in the grass. So much so that yesterday Vallata asked Sportamente to have other baskets to be placed in the river park. “It’s not that they are missing, there are spaces where to throw waste,” he says.

But isn’t the river park zero-waste? There is some sort of short circuit in Lambioi. The park belongs to the Municipality; it is managed by Sportamente Belluno (which has entrusted the kiosk, the barbecues, the solarium area and the outdoor beach volleyball court to Vallata di Beer Firm Dolomiti); waste is handled by Bellunum. The result is that bins are needed, because people otherwise leave their garbage lying around.

“It took four hours to clean everything,” concludes Vallata. «We had put some baskets, which Sportif gave us, for the kiosk area, but they are not enough if this is the result. I asked for other containers and I was assured by the company that they will talk to the Municipality to equip the area with the necessary baskets ». With all due respect to an attempt at environmental education that has shown its limits.
