The new benches under construction

The carpentry work will end in October and 5 workers are employed. «The first intervention will end in mid-June. Then Se.Mi will prepare the cultivable spaces and we will complete the installation in the autumn “

IVREA. The earth has been largely removed from the planters, one of them has already been painted a delicate lilac and the volunteers are placing a first bench inside it: a construction site that changes the intended use of some objects to change the future of a place.

Some voluntary associations work together to beautify and make the Movicentro area more welcoming and liveable: a working group is responsible for giving new life to three pentagonal planters, unused, in the waiting area.

“There is a parent project, called Intrecci, to allow third sector entities to identify and activate useful resources to create operational paths for people in a state of marginalization” explains Alberto Garretto, social worker of the Pollicino cooperative who deals with the construction of seats in wood to be housed in the basins. The project also sees the participation of the non-profit organization Se.Mi, which responds to social needs through the planting of vegetable gardens. “Urban furnishings that are in a state of decay, present here and in Bellavista, will be redeveloped, transforming them into shop windows – continues Garretto – The latter will reproduce those cultivated spaces that generally arise in the suburbs”.

The construction work of the seats has a manual commitment value. “It is a simple project to involve the collaborators on a practical level, identified by all the associations present in the program – explains the operator – The vegetable gardens at the Zac will be partly benches and partly vegetable crops to become a form of decoration, but also of narration of the projects of the social gardens, now widely used tools for educational and collective purposes ».

The carpentry work will end in October and 5 workers are employed. «The first intervention will end in mid-June. Then Se.Mi will prepare the cultivable spaces and we will complete the installation in the autumn »concludes Garretto.

Lucia Panzieri, president of the Zac cooperative, speaks of continuity: «This is the second part of the Zip project with which we created the horizontal street art. We joined Intrecci to fulfill the desire, expressed by the boys, to be able to sit surrounded by a bit of greenery. Through the collaboration with the Pollicino cooperative, the Ecoredia association, Se.Mi and a network of third sector entities of Ivrea we want to recall and enhance the concept of urban garden, an example of which is present at the Parco Lago di città. This project is also part of the educational services of the Zac, called FammiSpazio, aimed at involving the children who attend the Movicentro in various kinds of activities ».

The aim of improving this place is reaffirmed by Marco Bovolenta, recently hired at Zac after having carried out the civil service: “We are continuing the journey undertaken last autumn with schools and aimed at redeveloping the area to make it a place where people can come to spend some quality time. The presence of many young volunteersari among the young people who revolve around FammiSpazio enriches the meaning of the project ».
