“This scene tells of one of the first encounters between the painter and the thief, the two protagonists of the documentary”, says in the video Benjamin Ree, director of The painter and the thief. “The atmosphere is intimate and the conversation is natural. The documentary tells the friendship between the painter Barbora Kysilkova with Karl Bertil-Nordland, a thief who stole her paintings in 2015. The two come into contact while searching for the missing paintings. He is a drug addict, distant from Kysilkova’s world but fascinated by art. And when he is injured in an accident, she offers to help him.
Benjamin Ree is a Norwegian director. He directed the documentary Magnus (2016).
