The “center” «is not at all equidistance, it instead involves a choice of field, it is an alternative to the left and is also clearly distinct from the right. A center that must be the driving force behind a center-right government ». Silvio Berlusconi said this at the conference organized by the newspaper La Discussione in Saint Vincent on the theme of overcoming bipolarity and new policies for the ecological transition.
Berlusconi then began by emphasizing that Saint Vincent is “a place dear to a great exponent of Christian Democratic history such as Carlo Donat-Cattin and his current of Forze Nuove. A man of the Catholic left, but uncompromising towards all forms of totalitarianism. He was a valiant partisan but also a rigorous anti-communist. It is a glorious past, one in which you sink your roots, but your initiative does not look to the past, it looks to the future, as is right “, so much so that the central theme of the conference is the environment and ecology.
«After all, the Catholic-liberal tradition – continued Berlusconi – which was expressed in Italy by the Christian Democrats, is a fundamental part of Forza Italia’s identity. We are a synthesis of the great political traditions that governed the country after the war, the Christian one, the liberal one, the reformist one. This naturally places us at the center of the political scenario, a center which is not at all equidistant, which instead involves a choice of field, which is an alternative to the left and which is also clearly distinct from the right. A center that must be the driving force behind a center-right government. Thanks to my descent into the field – said the leader of FI – Italy has a bipolar system. The alternation between the center-right of the government and the center-left has guaranteed the turnover of the ruling class and a healthy competition on programs, and I really believe that even today that bipolarism is a value to be preserved. On this there are no possible divisions or distinctions. After all, only in this way, only with a center-right whose Christian, liberal, guarantist, pro-European connotation is clear, will it be possible to govern Italy starting from 2023, with an authoritative premier able to continue the excellent work of the government that we are supporting ». As for his future, the former premier said: «I think that Silvio Berlusconi can still be useful to the country and to Italian citizens, given the esteem that still surrounds me in Europe. We will see what I can do, I will not back down, and I will do what can be useful for our country ».
