Biden announced 500 new sanctions against Russia: “Putin must pay the price for the death and destruction he causes”

President Joe Biden announced new sanctions against Russia on Friday in an effort to increase pressure on Moscow in light of the second anniversary of the war in Ukraine. The measures, which include export restrictions on nearly 100 entities and steps to reduce Russia’s energy revenues, aim to hold Russia accountable for the conflict and the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

During a press conference, Biden warned that if Russian President Vladimir Putin does not face consequences for his actions, the death and destruction in Ukraine will continue. The sanctions target individuals connected to Navalny’s imprisonment, the Russian financial sector, and sanctions evaders across continents.

Biden emphasized the need for the House of Representatives to pass a bipartisan national security bill to provide urgent aid to Ukraine, which is facing a severe ammunition shortage. Failure to act, he warned, would be a betrayal of Ukraine and a show of weakness in the face of Russian aggression.

The President also highlighted the united front of NATO and the global coalition supporting Ukraine, stating that Putin’s attempts to achieve his objectives in Ukraine have been met with strong resistance. He urged the United States to stand up for freedom and not bow down to any aggressor.

The sanctions come as part of a broader effort by the United States and its allies to hold Russia accountable for the devastation caused by the war in Ukraine. As tensions continue to escalate, the international community remains vigilant in its support for Ukraine and its condemnation of Russian aggression.
