Biden’s slaps on Putin

by admin

The Biden Administration imposes tough sanctions against Russia, so tough that they have the potential to have heavy effects on the economy and set a very significant precedent.. American banks will no longer be able to buy Russian government bonds and this will reduce Russia’s chances of borrowing money. In addition, thirty-two entities are hit by sanctions, including some fake “media” controlled by Russian intelligence that spread disinformation online. And there is also the expulsion of ten diplomats. The reasons cited by the US government are interesting: the sanctions mainly punish the SolarWinds case, namely the very sophisticated and giant-scale breach by Russian intelligence specialists against the computer networks of American corporations and institutions. But they also punish interference in the 2016 elections (Russian intelligence backed Donald Trump with dirty maneuvers), the use of chemical weapons (against political opponent Alexei Navalny) and bounties offered to the Taliban to kill American soldiers (one a serious matter that Trump practically did not even comment on). Biden, who called Putin “a killer”, re-establishes a normal principle: aggressive actions against the United States have consequences.
