Inside the Senate it will no longer be discussed, there is no lack of controversy outside. The day after the sinking of the Zan bill in the Senate is a succession of replies, frontal attacks, exchanges of accusations, among the protagonists of Italian politics. Now at least six months will eventually have to pass before the Palazzo Madama Hall will go back to examining the bill, which cannot in any case be identical.
However, certainties rain from the Democratic Party: the main culprit would be Matteo Renzi, who was absent from the vote due to commitments in Saudi Arabia, the one who compromised the approval of the law by lending his side to the right. The former prime minister in recent months had tried to mediate, evidently aware of the possibility that there were no votes, but the Democratic Party remained rigid in its positions, the opening of a table by Letta was, according to many, belated. “Yesterday there was a rupture, also of trust, across the board, with Italia Viva,” said the secretary of the Democratic Party Enrico Letta, opening an internal rift to the majority. Letta also announced that “the Democratic Party is ready to support the collection of signatures of a proposed law of popular initiative on the issue of the rights of the LGBT minority”.
On a live social media, the reply from the leader of IV promptly arrived: “A political disaster took place on the Zan bill – the words of Renzi – managed with total incapacity by the Pd of Enrico Letta, who first made an opening on TV and then he decided to go to the wall against the wall, playing an ideological game on the skin of the people. And of course losing it, as was clear to all those who know the Senate, politics and, above all, mathematics ». Officially Italia Viva had declared to vote against the trap, but according to many it was a bluff: the numbers tell, in any case, a more complex reality, the snipers were necessarily hidden in the ranks of Pd and Movimento 5 stelle.
“A working table was held in the Senate on Tuesday – continued Renzi – the speaker in the Chamber Zan together with the representatives of the Pd and M5S sat down saying this is the text, take it or leave it, the right withdrew its prejudices. And if you don’t want to do it, wall against wall and each one takes on his responsibilities », his words. There is also space for an outburst against the smear campaign and the threats that his party is allegedly undergoing: “We are the subject of a shameful media and social campaign, they want to hold demonstrations under the headquarters of Italia viva and I am receiving death threats”, he concluded Renzi.
Position similar to that of Salvini. Even according to the leader of the League, the Zan law capitulated due to errors of the Democratic Party: “The Democratic Party wanted to bury a law against hatred and discrimination, even ignoring the appeals of the Holy See, but it is possible to start immediately from the text of the center-right that does not it involves children, it does not jeopardize the freedom of education in schools, it does not introduce gender theory and it does not limit freedom of expression ”Salvini underlined.

There were many angry reactions from the center-left, including that of the regional councilor of Tuscany, Iacopo Melio, who explained how the bill would also protect people with disabilities. “Rejecting the zan bill also means not wanting to take action against those who discriminate against people with disabilities,” he wrote in a post on Instagram.
