«We are carefully monitoring – he adds – these new forms of crime. We have recently implemented our database: now we also map information relating to the perpetrator of the computer crime, not just the victim, with the aim of studying the relationships. We are trying to refine our investigation tools to better understand how the online criminal works and guide the action of the police forces ».
The reading of the data seems unambiguous: where there is a greater use of IT tools, the risk increases. Where, on the other hand, for reasons of age, culture or infrastructure, the population is less inclined to digital, there are fewer reported offenses.
The main purpose is to make a profit, through the theft of data or information to dispose of money. But attacks on “flaws in the system” are also growing, like it zoombombing, unwanted intrusion into online conferences.
The resumption of thefts and violence
Meanwhile, after the sharp decline in the months of lockdown, even thieves and robbers seem to be back in action, forgetting about the virus. If compared to 2019 thefts are still down by 36%, in the first six months of 2021, in particular thefts with tear-off (+ 35%), of motorcycles (+ 17%) and cars (+ 16%) return to rise.
In parallel, robberies are resuming (+ 6%), albeit with still reduced numbers, in particular for those in banks: only 37 in the first six months of 2021, compared to 145 in the same period of 2019. However, the decline in thefts continues in the home (-39% compared to two years ago).
