Borgo dei Borghi, Geraci Siculo moral winner: many votes from the web

PALERMO – Faced with the objectivity of the numbers, Geraci Siculo can be considered the moral and “popular” winner of the contest “Il borgo dei borghi” created as part of the transmission ‘Alla falde del Kilimangiarò conducted by Camila Raznovich on Rai Tre. Because according to the data published by Rai, 37.89% of supporters voted via web for the town of Madonie, Tropea – the winning village – had 14.3% and Grottammare in third position with 11.19% . The third place of Geraci Siculo was achieved exclusively with the vote via the web, however, Tropea, Baunei and Albori were able to enjoy the vote of the jury which assigns 33.3% more to the vote via the web. «The data published by Rai confirm what we imagined, the exceptional victory of Geraci Siculo in the online popular vote, almost 40% of the voters chose our village among the 20 in the race – says the mayor Luigi Iuppa -. We can say, without the possibility of denial, that Geraci Siculo is the most loved village by Italians 2021. A result that makes us proud and for which we must thank all those who voted for us and especially the women and men who with their popularity have contributed to the achievement of this formidable result “.

«Of course, there remains a bitter taste in the mouth for the third place – continues the mayor – but we recognize the victory of Tropea to whose mayor I personally congratulated ». A competition that was nevertheless an exceptional showcase. «In fact – adds Iuppa – we thank Rai and the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy Association for the opportunity that has been given to us. We are already working to capitalize on this visibility to the maximum in terms of development of tourist flows and in general of social and economic growth, always in the wake of sustainability and respect for the territory ». Geraci Siculo is not only a village to visit, but also a village to live. “We are interested in developing stable relationships, which we believe are absolutely necessary to improve the quality of life of our citizens and to promote new job opportunities for young people from all over the Madonie area – explains Iuppa -. As soon as the pandemic conditions allow it we will do everything to celebrate with all the famous and non-famous friends who have supported us, inviting the three experts of the jury to discover together the wonders of Geraci and the Madonite territory and the welcome of its inhabitants », he concludes.
