Borgo Valbelluna, Molin Novo maxi roundabout: the construction process marks the way

The laying of the first stone was postponed indefinitely, which was to take place by the end of the month. Mayor Cesa: “We need patience, but the validity of the project is beyond question”

BORGO VALBELLUNA. The timing for the construction of the Molin Novo maxi roundabout is getting longer. And not a little. Based on the program agreement signed last year between the Veneto Region and the Municipality of Borgo Valbelluna, the construction site for the new work should have started by the end of this month. Due to some bureaucratic hitches, however, the laying of the first stone will inevitably be postponed. At present with the worrying wording “sine die”.

“At the moment we do not know when the works could actually begin”, explains the councilor for urban planning and territorial planning, Martino Bernard, “because the approval process will have to finish first”.

The procedure is progressing, albeit slowly: in recent days the documents of the conference of services have been filed, including the approval of the project and the draft agreement between the entities concerned. The deadlines for any comments will therefore expire on 29 June. A fundamental step, which will not be the last, however.

“It will be necessary to review once again through the conference of services for the final approval”, continues Bernard, “procedure that will then lead us to the next phase, which will consist in calling the tender”.

The assignment of the work will presumably take months, also due to the increase in the costs of raw materials: the real risk is that the works cannot start even by the end of the year, if there are no accelerations.

«It will take patience», adds the mayor Stefano Cesa, «but we continue to believe in the validity of the project. We want to eliminate level junctions and traffic intersections. And at the same time reduce the speed, removing the most important flow of cars from via Feltre and via Belluno, where the houses are. In the places where there are houses there are in fact more intersections, but not only: elements that contribute to creating little safety in road traffic. Hence the motivation to move the roads away from the homes themselves, making all traffic flows conveyed into a single node, making transit safer for motorists. Operations that will ensure that the roundabout represents tomorrow an element in which one must necessarily decelerate ».

The Molin Novo roundabout project will cost 1 million 800 thousand euros, divided into two sections: the first from 1 million 200 thousand euros, the second from 600 thousand euros. The 1 million 200 thousand financed by the Province and 200 thousand by Unicomm, while the 600 thousand by the Region and the Municipality with 300 thousand euros each.
