175 teams from home and abroad compete online for the BRICS Vocational Skills Competition kick-off in Xiamen

Southeast Net, May 25th (Straits Herald reporter Kang Zehui) In order to implement President Xi Jinping’s proposal at the 13th BRICS Leaders’ Meeting to establish a BRICS Vocational Education Alliance, a vocational skills competition was held to serve as a platform for the five countries’ vocational colleges. On the evening of May 24, the opening ceremony of the 2022 BRICS Vocational Skills Competition kick-off was held in Xiamen. The event is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People’s Republic of China, the BRICS Business Council, and the Xiamen Municipal People’s Government.

More than 600 representatives, experts and players from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa and other countries participated in the opening ceremony in a combination of online and offline methods.

175 participating teams compete online

This year’s competition focuses on new industrial key areas such as intelligent manufacturing and digital economy. It lasted for 6 days, and there are three competitions: Web technology, machine learning and big data, and rail vehicle technology. Competition standards, competition organization and competition evaluation are three levels. Benchmarking international competitions.

55 international teams and 120 domestic teams will compete online in an English competition operating environment.

Jiang Can from the School of Transportation, Xiamen City Vocational College, will compete with international players in the “Rail Vehicle Technology” event. “Participating in such competitions can give me more motivation to move to a higher level, which is very helpful for my future career,” he said.

The competition has a positive role in cultivating future technical and skilled talents in BRICS countries, promoting future skills development and sharing the best practices of vocational education.

The 2022 BRICS Vocational Skills Competition has two stages, the kick-off and the official final, with a total of 28 competitions.

In order to ensure the overall competition level of domestic and foreign participating teams and the smooth development of online remote competitions, online international training camps for each competition have been held one after another before the competition. The official finals will be held in November this year.

Promoting the training of skilled personnel in BRICS countries

2022 is the BRICS “China Year”. This competition is the first vocational skills competition held by China as the chair country under the BRICS mechanism. It is jointly guided by the government departments of the five BRICS countries.

On the basis of integrating the characteristics of vocational education and the resources of the competition in various countries, the competition optimizes the design of the competition, benchmarks the World Skills Competition, improves the ability of teachers and students in vocational colleges and universities in the five countries in innovation, coordination, organization and cooperation, and enriches the five countries. The content of exchanges and cooperation between vocational colleges and enterprises will promote the cultivation of international high-quality skilled talents in BRICS countries.

Liu Zhenying, Chairman of the Skills Development Working Group of the BRICS Business Council and President of the Xiamen BRICS Future Skills Development and Technology Innovation Research Institute, introduced that the start-up competition has innovated the competition mode, optimized the technical means of the competition, and broke the time and cost of the international remote competition. The space barrier provides a new model for international cultural exchanges and cooperation during the epidemic, opens up a new path for the integration of international production and education, and polishes the golden signboard of the “BRICS Vocational Education Competition” to truly form a long-term mechanism.
