“My daughter in the last two weeks has already been left on foot four times. The problem is that sometimes the bus just isn’t there, other times it drives straight because it is too full ». We have already described in all possible ways the inconvenience for students who move by public transport. We record another, perhaps the most extreme: that of the Ivrea-Cossano line. Speaking is Santina Grasso, Caravino’s mother of a 17-year-old girl, who often and unwillingly found herself returning home after six in the evening. The line is not managed directly by GTT but has been contracted to the Vita carrier, well before Covid. The problem is that if the 2.30pm race skips or is too full to load other students, the next one is at 4.40pm. Instead of returning home shortly after 4 pm, the boys are forced to arrive with the plate almost at the table and the day is practically over.
The same film in a completely different area of the Eporediese, in Montalto Dora, where the route is managed directly by Gtt, where the service is however more frequent. «This week – explains Silvana Mantovani – it has already happened twice that my niece lost two buses. He arrives at the bus stop at 7 and has to wait until 7.40 to catch a bus. On the way back, my husband goes to pick her up, because otherwise he would go home too late ».
Isolated inconveniences? Not at all. The question has reached the highest spheres for some time and the regional councilor Marco Gabusi replied yesterday to a question from the councilor Alberto Avetta on the matter. «In the Ivrea conurbation from Monday to Friday in the time slot 7 – 9 there are 59 journeys corresponding to a transport capacity of 2000 seats per hour – explained Gabusi -. We all believe that this number of trips is sufficient to satisfy the demand; the problem is rather that the races are not carried out ». In this regard, a sanctioning procedure has also been opened on the recommendation of the commissioner Giuliano Balzola, of which today, however, there is still no evidence. What everyone would like, however, is for the races to stop jumping. “The criticality is more evident – explains Gabusi – on the reinforcement bus rides and on the rides that we have authorized in GTT without the verification of the OTX (a sort of Gps, ed), or of the travel monitoring system that allows you to understand if the service is actually carried out “. Avetta also pays attention to the point: «The Region had assured us that for the start of the school everything would work out at its best. The situation of local public transport in Canavese remains disheartening as well as disappointing is the position of the regional council, which, by answering my question time, admits its powerlessness in making GTT respect the program prepared this summer in view of the resumption of the school and of productive activities. Indeed, due to the technological age of some vehicles, it seems that it is not even possible to know exactly the number of races that are “skipped”. On several occasions in recent months we have reiterated the need and urgency to implement every initiative aimed at supporting and encouraging citizens to return safely to public transport, but from the Councilor’s words I seem to understand surrender and resignation. And in any case it is too easy to unload all the responsibilities on GTT which fires with the wood it has and which, obviously, is a wood of lower quantity and quality than that which other Regions make available ».
