Camper to vaccinate in the square or at the market: in Fvg departure expected shortly

UDINE. The experiments already started in other regions have given promising results: campers, or other mobile structures such as trucks (or more simply trucks), which move around the territory reaching the most frequented areas: local and village markets, squares, fairs or beaches , to “intercept” citizens who have not yet immunized, offering the possibility of vaccinating on the spot, without the need for a reservation. All trying to privilege the areas in which the propensity to get vaccinated has remained below average.

An idea that the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region is now thinking of putting into practice. After all, if the number of citizens who go to the facilities for inoculation is lower than the wishes, why not try to bring the vaccines directly to the people, in the name of proximity?

A theme dear to the deputy governor with responsibility for Health, Riccardo Riccardi, who started the design process to identify the most suitable ways to apply the idea of mobile hubs in the Friuli Venezia Giulia area.

The project is still at an early stage, but the will to go forward is there: “The intention is to use mobile structures, such as campers, by going to areas where there are fewer adhesions to the campaign – explains the deputy governor -, because it is precisely in this way that we can carry out a discussion of proximity also for vaccinations. At the moment it is still too early to unbalance ourselves on which will be the best places in which to place these mobile vaccination facilities and on the timing, but it is an idea on which we will work in a concrete way ».

There is no shortage of forerunners to draw inspiration from. In the nearby Veneto, vaccination campers present in squares of historic centers, markets, festivals, festivals and beaches have become a custom this summer and their use in the districts has also been promoted.

Furthermore, in Mestre, mobile units have been used to vaccinate people with no fixed abode. In Lombardy, the “tour” of the mobile units touched the holiday areas, such as those on the lakes, with excellent results as regards the number of vaccinated people, even among the youngest. Also in Lombardy, vaccination campers stop near aggregation centers frequented by young people or the elderly.

In Emilia Romagna, in addition to markets and exhibition areas, mobile hubs beat the beaches of the Riviera, immunising both residents and tourists. On board the campers there is the vaccination team and to have the dose inoculated you just need to have an identity document and health card with you.

Or again, there is the already consolidated experience of mobile hubs in large cities to reach citizens in populous neighborhoods more directly: in Naples, just to cite an emblematic case, the vaccination campaign is proceeding also thanks to mobile units ( trucks are used in the Neapolitan capital) from the Rione Sanità to Ponticelli.

There are regions determined to propose the same model of proximity in the school environment to encourage vaccination among the youngest with mini-hubs set up in schools or vaccination campers in courtyards or in front of institutions. Not in Friuli Venezia Giulia, however.

“I do not think it is a good idea to provide mobile vaccination facilities for schools, because the need for informed consent signed by the parents would make the whole procedure more complicated – Riccardi clarifies -. Instead, we must focus on the territories where the tendency to get vaccinated was lower ». –
