A garden dedicated to the surgeon, a square instead for the benefactress
CANDIA CANAVESE. The memory of illustrious people and benefactors, emeritus citizens who, with their work and their attention to others, have spent themselves for the community of Candia is fixed in the collective memory. Last Sunday the municipal administrators dedicated two areas of the lake town respectively to Dr. Vincenzo Valle and Maria Graziella Gillone. Born in Candia on October 16, 1938, Maria Graziella Gillone died in Mercenasco on December 8, 2003. “She was a woman of commendable gifts and commendable and concrete human skills, – the mayor Mario Mottino reminds her – always ready to collaborate and helping people, especially those in need or in difficulty; generosity that he showed, also through testamentary acts, and donations. He left his house to the Curia of Ivrea to be used for the hospitality of needy people and a piece of land located in via Gaio al Comune. Here the previous administration built a small square and a parking area. Which we have now named after her ».
And Vincenzo Valle was no less, a physician in Candia and the neighboring villages for over thirty years at the beginning of the last century. “His memory was handed down to us by the elderly of Candia – says Mottino – who told us about a special person, always ready with his inevitable gig to run from one town to another, from one farmhouse to another, to visit and treat his patients. Vincenzo Valle died in 1921. And on the occasion of the centenary of his death the Municipality decided to name the green area next to the town hall after him. The official ceremony with the laying of the plates took place on Sunday in the presence of Pier Carlo Valle, great grandson of Dr. Vincenzo.
«Remembering with a plaque is an important and simple recognition to people who loved Candia and contributed to its growth and development – said the mayor – In the past it was the musician Riccardo Vassia after whom the Lido square was named. We must not and we do not want to forget our ancestors, our history and traditions.
