LECCE – The car overturns after hitting a dry stone wall and one of the passengers dies shortly after being hospitalized. Tragedy shortly after 5 in the morning in Salento along the provincial road 194 Sannicola-Lido Conchiglie. The victim is a 21-year-old of Egyptian descent: his name was Mohamed Badr and lived in Novoli, a town north of Lecce. The driver of the car, a 21-year-old from Aradeo, tested positive for the breathalyzer.
The accident occurred near the Riobò nightclub. The Egyptian boy was in the company of three other friends after an evening spent in some clubs. The driver of the car, a Renault Clio owned by his father, suddenly lost control of the vehicle, which knocked down a dry stone wall and then overturned and crashed into the guardrail. Rescuers were immediately alerted by some motorists. Mohamed was the worst offender of all when the rescuers arrived. Transported to the Vito Fazzi hospital, his heart stopped beating in the following minutes. The fate with the other boys turned out to be more lenient. The driver and another 21-year-old from Aradeo were unharmed and a 17-year-old was taken over by doctors from the Santa Caterina Novella hospital in Gallipoli, but his condition is not worrying.
The investigations are entrusted to the carabinieri of the Sannicola station. The military immediately subjected the driver of the car to investigations to check for alcohol or drug use: the young man tested positive for the breathalyzer test. Taken to hospital, he was subjected to further tests to detect the exact alcohol content in the blood: he could be charged with road murder. The car ended up under seizure pending the investigators to arrange for advice to accurately establish the dynamics of the accident.
