Viverone is considered of extraordinary historical-scientific importance, Oropa is a sanctuary at 1,200 meters above sea level
The soldiers of the Carabinieri Nucleus for the protection of the cultural heritage of Turin, in collaboration with the first Carabinieri nucleus of Volpiano, flew over, to verify their integrity, some UNESCO sites in Piedmont, in particular the pile-dwelling site of Lake Viverone, the Sacro Monte di Varallo and the Sanctuary of Oropa.
Inserted among the 111 serial pile-dwelling archaeological sites of the Alpine Arc, the site of Viverone is considered of extraordinary historical-scientific importance. The presence of over 5000 poles in the ground below the water level testifies to the settlement of an ancient and vast pile-dwelling village dating back to the Bronze Age.
Varallo represents the oldest example and of greatest artistic and cultural interest among the Sacred Mountains of Piedmont and Lombardy. Built starting from the fifteenth century, positioned on a rocky wall, the complex is called New Jerusalem, it is made up of 43 chapels and 400 groups of terracotta statues.
Oropa is a Marian sanctuary that extends to 1200 meters above sea level within the Special Reserve of the Sacro Monte di Oropa, occupying an area of 1,500 hectares.
