Cardinal Matteo Zuppi is the new president of the CEI

The cardinal Matteo Zuppi Archbishop of Bologna is the new President of the Italian Episcopal Conference. Pope Francis chose him. The cardinal was also included in the three proposed by the bishops this morning Paolo Lojudice archbishop of Siena and the archbishop of Acireale Antonino Raspanti. Zuppi replaces the cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti. Zuppi and Lojudice had been longtime favorites.
