CAREMA

The 69th edition of the Carema grape and wine festival experienced, on the evening of Saturday 25, one of its most anticipated and significant moments with the awarding of the Golden Grape, a recognition that rewards the quality of the best grapes produced on terraces created along the slopes of the mountain by the obstinate and passionate initiative of men and women of Caremese dedicated to this crop.

In the presence of about eighty people, the award ceremony saw the delivery of agricultural objects and tools starting from the 39th place up to the first. “I would like to thank the administrations of Donnas and Pont-Saint-Martin, the Caves cooperatives de Donnas winery, the Cantina dei Nebbiolo di Carema producers and all the commercial activities, the technical studies and the entrepreneurs who offered the prizes of this edition”, said Mayor Flavio Vairos.

A jury made up of oenologists, agronomists and technicians evaluated, from an ampelographic point of view, the grapes delivered on Saturday morning by 46 producers. The shape of the bunch and the percentage of sugars present in it were the main parameters that guided the choice of the four judges: Andrea Clerin, Carlo Borsani, Elena Mania and Marco Giovanetto.

The Grappolo d’oro went to Matteo Bosonetto, who preceded Mario Bosonetto, who finished in 3rd place, and Olivio Vair Piova, who took the place of honor. The success of Bosonetto, 28 years old, a family tradition in viticulture that has its roots in generations and generations, is the confirmation of a reality projected into the future of the wines of Caremese and also of the natural environment of this corner of the Canavese. «My father’s family originates from this land and we have always been winegrowers. My great-grandfather was one of the ten founding members of the cooperative of the Cantina dei Nebbiolo di Carema producers of which, for almost three years, I have held the position of vice president “, declared the winner immediately after receiving, for the fourth time in the history of his family, the coveted recognition. «Today the wine of these terraces is making itself known and appreciated far beyond their borders: 30% of the production from our cellar is exported to England, the United States, Japan and Australia – he added -. We are committed to investing in the territory to convert abandoned wooded areas into vineyards. At the beginning of the twentieth century there were almost 50 hectares of cultivated land, today 20 remain. Wine is increasingly acquiring a greater identity as a cultural aspect and the younger generations are understanding and appreciating it. Our prospect for the future therefore points towards their ever more significant involvement, as users but also and above all as workers in this sector ».

Bosonetto finally addressed words of affection for the community to which he belongs: “This festival is a tradition respected and honored by all our people, who annually bring their grapes to be evaluated, and a special thanks goes to all the sponsors that make it possible to pass this important event down to Carema ». –
