IVREA. Moderate optimism and marked pessimism: the judgment of the health sector professionals oscillates between these two values, the vision on the possibilities of carrying out the 2022 Carnival.

“I believe that an impulse to vaccinations can create the conditions for the Carnival to take place – he says Mauro Pozzo, medical director of the Surgery of the Biella hospital and commander of the team Gli Imperatori -; I imagine a party in safety, made by people who respect this situation, therefore by the vaccinated, because the swab, in my opinion, is not enough. Certainties are needed, because ours is a widespread celebration and a small security breach is enough to run the risk of a cluster bursting, even on a wagon or in a team, to remain in the battle arena. Of course, the situation is constantly evolving and we cannot know today how it will be in February, but if everyone follows the rules and respects others, behaving responsibly, I believe there is hope of returning to the streets ». A hope, Pozzo reiterates, linked to the vaccine: «Fundamental, for an event like ours: thousands of people who move, cross and meet».

Also possible Paolo Ghiggio, former head of Orthopedics, now retired, but engaged as a vaccinator, as well as General (in 1984), Podestà (in 1986), orange-thrower and before that a goliard in the ranks of the AUC. He too, like his colleague Pozzo, focuses on the vaccine: «Yes, I think Carnival can take place if people decide to get vaccinated. Vaccines have always saved the world, this could also save our manifestation ». If Carnival 2022 were to see the light, for Ghiggio it would also be important on a moral level: «We need carefree, we cannot continue to live only by misfortunes! Then, we all know how important the Carnival in Ivrea is, also on a social level. So, I hope it will be done, just as I hope that the percentage of vaccinated people will continue to grow, even if I realize that it is not easy to regulate such a complex event ».

Less of a chance Cristina Cardini, surgery nurse at the hospital of Ivrea and third generation Fagiolara: she is a member of the board of directors of the Fagiolata del Castellazzo, heir to a passion collected by her grandfather and parents: «Honestly, I fear that even in 2022 we will have to give up. Clearly I hope I’m wrong, but I see many, too many difficulties in managing the party in a context like the one we are experiencing, moreover without knowing how things will be in February. Restrict participation? How do you do? Especially in a moment like that of the bean: setting limits means emptying everything we have always done of meaning. We, like Fagiolata, have not yet made any decisions or established positions: next month we will meet again and we hope to have clearer ideas. Without forgetting, in addition to Covid, the limits that Piazza Maretta currently presents with the new arrangement ».

Filippo Frerio she is studying medicine in Novara, she is in her senior year and she experiences Carnival as a student, in the AUC: “Honestly, I see it hard, I am not optimistic at all and, if I had to express a prediction today, I would say that Carnival 2022 will not will make. Too many uncertainties and, faced with this situation, for those who have to make a decision it is easier to decree the stop, rather than venture into an adventure that would have a thousand constraints. Then, I realize that there are members, like the orange throwers, who cannot organize themselves without due advance. And it is not conceivable to think of a Carnival without the battle. Surely we AUC will do something, even if Carnival will not be there: in compliance with the rules, people and health, but we must keep fit, in view of the centenary of the order, which we will celebrate in 2024 “.
