Carnival becomes a board game

A sort of Ivrea Monopoly, the creator is Andrea Moretto

IVREA. It derived the name, A l’èturna Carlevè, from the title of the famous song of the same name, composed by Gian Franco D’Alberto in the eighties, the board game conceived and created in the form of a prototype by Andrea Moretto, an Ivorian known as the creator of the most small functioning coffee maker in the world, the Amoretto, also exhibited at the Deutsches Museum in Munich, the largest museum dedicated to science and technology in the world, as well as creator, with his wife Laura Perego, of the Great Event of Canavese (Gec).

It is a sort of Ivrea Monopoly that revolves around the cobblestones of a shooting square, amidst hilarious microcassettes of oranges, where the cards of unexpected events and probabilities have been renamed “speruma bin” and “fatla bun-a” and where they find the classic route with the historical procession that goes around the city, the ghost of the tyrant that hovers among the squares, the horsemen, the orange-throwing teams, the bean beans and the districts. «The idea came to me during the interminable period of closures dictated by the pandemic – explains Moretto -. The fact that Carnival had to be given up had further plunged me into despair. So I thought of an alternative way to experience Carnival, feeding that flame that is always ready to expand in the fire of passion that explodes every year in our most beloved event. An alternative way that could be extended to everyone, helping to make the party and the city known, even outside our local borders and this game seemed to me a good solution ». Moretto spent six months designing the game in all its details, personally designing the characters, objects and symbols depicted on the cards, boxes and pawns.

“According to the indications of the Foundation to which I had submitted the idea – says Moretto – I contacted the various components to have the authorization to use logos and images, obtaining the immediate consent of all, except the Alfieri, for consistency, they said, with having already denied, in the past, a similar proposal. Enthusiastic about the idea, the protagonists of the 2020 edition said to themselves, Paola Gregorutti, with her husband Marco Paonessa, Vincenzo Ceratti with his wife Valentina Ollearo, and Gabriella Gianotti, president of the Museum of the historic carnival association, who gladly granted us the logo”. And he adds: “As a great event in the Canavese area, the intention, for now, is to organize matches, as soon as possible and always in full compliance with the anti-contagion rules, inside or outside the Caffè Gioberti, in the square homonymous, better known as Maretta, of which my wife is the owner ». “It will therefore be produced – he continues – thanks to the support of some local sponsors, a limited edition of the game, in 250 copies, and we will make a gift of a box to hospital, prison, law enforcement, municipality, library and primary school”.FRANCO FARNÈ
