Cartabia: “From the pandemic crisis, a great opportunity for renewal”

by admin

«We have before us a great opportunity for renewal, favored precisely by the crisis opened by the pandemic and by the European aid of the Recovery and Resilience Plan. The role of the Ministry in this context is essentially to ensure more resources and more tools to all judicial offices so that they can perform their highest function in the best possible way. Personnel, starting with magistrates and administrative staff, resources for construction, for digitization ». This was said by the Minister of Justice Marta Cartabia in her speech at the inauguration ceremony of the judicial year in Reggio Calabria.

The minister then said: «We are experiencing a difficult phase, full of challenges, but it is also one of renewed impetus and opportunities, at a time when the whole country is in turmoil and is planning its recovery, around the PNRR. Precisely in this context of emergency, “system reforms” have been initiated to address the chronic problems referred to many times: length of trials and the burden of the backlog, first of all. Over time, these evils, together with the serious events of recent years, have become the cause of a progressive and harmful erosion of trust on the part of citizens, economic operators and international observers ».

Cartabia then focused on the reform of the CSM: «I trust that the amendments for the reform of the judiciary and for what the President of the Republic has defined as unavoidable, that of the CSM, can reach the Chambers as soon as possible. We will do so by hearing suggestions and criticisms, if constructive, but with great determination also because, it is clear to everyone, that the status quo has not given good proof of itself “.

Also because «the improvement of services related to justice will help to favor the start of a new season of citizens’ trust in the institutions. This will also be the most authentic way to honor the memory of all the servants of the state killed by the mafias. Like Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, whom we will remember on the 30th anniversary of the massacres. Like judge Antonino Scopelliti to whom I know there is an intention to dedicate the Palace of Justice which will be completed thanks to a protocol that I will sign with the Municipality this morning ».
