Casier, “fried sponges” alarm kill cats and dogs

The “fried sponge” found in Casier

Found in a central park in Casier, the complaint was immediately triggered

CASIER. There is alarm among citizens, and in particular among owners of dogs and cats, for the discovery of potential deadly traps. The first report was made by a citizen, who allegedly found the dangerous “fried sponges” in the park in via Falcone.

His observation immediately alerted the councilor for safety Rossella Veneran who yesterday released an official note warning all citizens: “I appeal to everyone to pay the utmost attention during walks with their dogs, and to report any new findings. We have already taken action by informing Commander Stefano Forte of the inter-municipal police force, but it is important to monitor, all together, the territory for the protection of our four-legged friends ».

Fried sponges, according to the Municipality, are likely to be deadly because, flavored by cooking in oil, they become very appetizing not only for dogs but also for cats. When the fried sponges (even a single piece is enough) are ingested, they begin their journey in the digestive system of the animal: when it reaches the stomach, it is impregnated with gastric juices and swells excessively, causing a dangerous occlusion which can kill the animal in no time.

“I strongly condemn such an act” added Mayor Renzo Carraretto “If we all care about the protection of our animals, we try to help each other as a community, by monitoring the territory”. The news also had a wide echo in social media, with the testimonies of various findings: «Returning from the walk with Tex» comments a user showing the “fried sponges” «we found this, I report to the carabinieri». –
