The elder was taking a diving course. Rescue and resuscitation were useless
CASTELFRANCO. Drama in the early afternoon, Adriano Albertin, 75 years old from Selvazzano Dentro, loses his life in the artificial stretch of water at the Baita al Lago di Castelfranco.
The tragedy happened, from the first information leaked, during a diving course, with an instructor, around 1pm on Sunday morning. The elderly man, originally from Selvazzano Dentro, accused of an illness. The instructor brought him to the surface and tried to save him, but when the help arrived and tried the resuscitation, there was already nothing more to be done.
With him, there was also his wife, who was waiting for him at the hut. On Sundays in the open air, it turned into a drama.
The carabinieri of the Castelfranco station were also on site.
The Paduan diving group, made up of seven students and three instructors, arrived at the lake early in the morning. He got ready, and went down into the water complete with an Ariadne’s thread, a marker, and slates. The elderly, however, may not have been in perfect shape since the morning. When he felt ill, under the water, he warned his instructor, Patrizia, as should always be done. She beckoned him with her thumb upward to get back up immediately. He obeyed, stopped the dive and went up on his own. As soon as he was ashore, the instructor who accompanied him began to give him heart massage, as the situation was precipitating. Then defibrillators were used, but there was already nothing more to be done. The Treviso emergency helicopter rescue service took off and landed on the lake.
“I had seen him in the morning” explains the wife of the owner of the hut, Anna Lavander “while I was welcoming the Paduan group who had booked and who would also come for lunch afterwards. He had asked me to use the bathroom, maybe he was not well. So I told him that if he wanted we had the one in the adjacent house which we use as an exception for customers coming from outside, since the restaurant is closed at that time, and he could go there. Some of the students wanted coffee, I made it for them. He didn’t take it, he said he didn’t want it. Then they all arrived, they waited for him and got off ”.
The tragedy occurred after the group prepared, did the breathing with the guides and went down on the water. “I was at the restaurant, at a certain point they came to ask for defibrillators and we gave them to them. But there the signal was no longer down despite the resuscitation practices”.
