Appeals from environmental associations accepted: stop at the construction site to carry out checks
The municipal administration of Catania has ordered the immediate suspension of the works on the site for the demolition and reconstruction of a property in Monte Paolillo, falling within the Timpa di Leucatia, owned by Dusty immobiliare Srl.
The provision, issued by the Director of Urban Planning, Biagio Bisignani, and published in the “Transparent Administration” area of the Municipality’s website, as well as to those directly involved, was notified to the Mayor, to the Secretary General as the Anti-Corruption Manager, to the Prosecutor , to the local Superintendency for cultural and architectural heritage, to the Civil Engineers in all’Arta. Among the assumptions on which it is based, explains the Municipality, in addition to some formal irregularities under investigation, it is highlighted that “it is necessary to verify the works, the legitimacy of the same, as well as the quantification of the works already carried out, the conformity of the declarations produced in Dia and the sworn appraisal in support, pending the release of the documents by the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested by the Municipal Administration on April 16 ”.
In the deed of suspension of the works it is also specified that within 15 days, if the conditions exist, an order of the mayor will be promoted for the seizure of the site. The reporting of possible town planning discrepancies in the construction site had been reported on March 30th by the Antica Sicilia association; with a request for access to documents, by the municipal councilor Graziano Bonaccorsi, on 12 April, and by the representative of the Catania Bene Comune movement, Matteo Iannitti, on 15 April; in the sessions of the Seventh and Tenth Council Commission both on April 15 and, finally, by the Stelle e Ambiente association on April 28.
