CAVA DE ‘TIRRENI – For three years closed in the house due to dust arriving from the nearby storage site: patience to the limit for the residents of via Monticelli, in the hamlet of Santa Lucia, who have now turned to a lawyer to put an end to the long-standing situation and to urge the managers to carry out the appropriate resolution measures. The problem, reported for some time, also concerns the emission of bad smells and persistent noises that inevitably compromise the tranquility of the area and the health of those who reside in the neighborhood. This is what we learn from a warning sent by the lawyer Ivana Fortunato – on behalf of the Rione Monticelli Committee of the president Pasquale Ferrara – to the address of the owners of the company held responsible for the dispersion of harmful dust into the air but also to the mayor Vincenzo Servalli, to the ecological operational nucleus of the command of the carabinieri for the protection of the environment of Salerno, to the Sanitary District 63 of the ASL, to the Salerno department of Arpac and to the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the court of Nocera Inferiore. The subject of the missive is precisely the malaise of the residents of Santa Lucia for at least three years forced to live at home with the windows closed due to the dust arriving from the storage site. A situation that becomes unsustainable in summer with the high temperatures that are recorded these days.
“The residents of the locality Monticelli – explains the lawyer Ivana Fortunato – where the activity of storing material composed of earth and stones with the use of large mechanical means insists, have complained for about three years about the now unsustainable condition in which they find themselves . In fact, the dust emissions generated by the plants, which are only four meters away from the first house, are dispersed not only in the air, but also inside the houses, preventing normal everyday life. The powders, in fact, insinuate themselves everywhere, even on food. So the residents are forced to hole up with their children in their own homes, unable to even hang out their laundry ». But apparently the problem is exacerbated by other components as well. These include the bad smells that come from the site and make the air even more unbreathable in the entire neighborhood and the impossibility of guaranteeing public peace due to the noises.
“The nauseating smells and deafening noises at all hours of the day and night, generated exclusively by the means, clarify the lawyer of the Rione Monticelli Committee are an aggravating circumstance – It is evident that these circumstances, in addition to entailing an unbearable situation, are also causing major psycho-physical health problems for residents in the neighboring areas ». The residents, through the lawyer, invited and warned the owners of the company present in the area to promptly provide everything necessary “so that atmospheric and acoustic pollution and olfactory nuisances are contained within the limits of ordinary tolerance”. In the absence of feedback, the lawyer has already made it known that citizens will contact the competent authorities in order to protect the environment and, above all, the health of residents. In this regard, in fact, the other institutions have already been consulted (first of all the Metellian Municipality, the Carabinieri and the ASL) to which the same warning has been sent, in order to keep the attention on the matter high and hope for a further intervention of solicitation by the competent bodies.
