Cava de ‘Tirreni, the road of crashes: one a week – breaking latest news

CAVA DE ‘TIRRENI – Running cars, constantly intermittent traffic lights and failure to comply with the Highway Code: headlights on safety in Viale Marconi after yet another accident, at least the seventh in as many weeks, which saw a car overturn due to of sustained speed. The new daring left that disturbed the peace of the residents of Viale Marconi a few days ago rekindled the spotlight on the need to take serious measures to regulate traffic in one of the main streets of the city center. The protagonist of the accident, which occurred a few days ago, was a woman who, in her Fiat Panda with her son, traveling the road at high speed, lost control of the car, which overturned.

Fortunately, the accident did not have serious consequences for the occupants of the car but it helped to reignite the controversy over the dangerousness of the road and, above all, the need to make the necessary measures to put a brake on those who travel without respecting the speed limits. It seems, in fact, that the motorist who was the protagonist of the accident the other day was traveling along Viale Marconi pressing hard on the accelerator otherwise it would be difficult to explain how, in making a curve, he would have lost control of the vehicle before hitting a tire against the sidewalks and then impacting on three parked cars and then overturning completely. “That road, especially on Sundays, is no man’s land,” said one of the citizens who gave first aid to the people involved in the accident.

«Aid and authorities took a lot of time to intervene, so much so that when the carabinieri and the ambulance arrived, the tow truck was already on the spot. Fortunately, the lady and her son had not been injured and we gave first aid to free them from the car and recover from the shock ». Meanwhile, the list of accidents, in some serious occasions, which occurred in the area is getting longer. In all, at least twenty in a year. Just last summer, it was a passerby who was hit by a speeding and out of control car who paid for it, and was subjected to a leg amputation for serious injuries. A few days earlier, on the same stretch, an old woman had been run over, while in December an adventurous front end had made two cars skid, taking them off the road: the race had stopped against the trees that surround the central sidewalk of Viale Marconi.

Hence the increasingly urgent need to take serious measures to discipline those who travel the stretch in defiance of speed limits and the highway code. Thus, while the residents of the area prepare a petition, a series of deterrents are being studied at the Palazzo di Città. Among the hypotheses not only the installation of bumps and bollards, but also the possibility of providing for the restoration of the operation of traffic lights at the most critical times and connecting a video surveillance system to them. «We asked for the bollards, the bumps, the restoration of the traffic lights – recalls a resident – but for now we have not received any feedback. A solution must be found, considering that it is useless to appeal to the good sense of motorists. For this reason we are evaluating the possibility of preparing a collection of signatures to be presented to the Municipality, the Local Police Command and the Public Security Commissioner ».
