The Unity of the Center-right creaks – officially – under the weight of the inefficiency of Italian infrastructures: at the meeting organized this morning in Milan by the coalition to close the electoral campaign under the Madonnina in support of Luca Bernardo, Matteo Salvini and Giorgia Meloni there was no they met. And so the long-awaited “photo opportunity” that was so needed by Lega, Fratelli d’Italia and Forza Italia just in the days when the whole coalition was overwhelmed by internal disputes in the Carroccio, by unfavorable polls – especially in Milan, where Sala is a winner already in the first round -, from the story of Luca Morisi and from the interview on Monday in La Stampa by Giancarlo Giorgetti.
Last but not least, this morning’s interview, again in La Stampa, by Silvio Berlusconi. In short, “the great united family of the Center-right”, as its protagonists often defined it, this morning in the hall of the Starhotels Business in via Gaggia in Milan, seemed a little less unity.
Officially because “Alitalia canceled a flight from Rome and delayed another one by half an hour”. For this reason, the leader of the Brothers of Italy Giorgia Meloni, at 10.55, has not yet arrived (the press conference was called at 10.30): “She has just landed”, reassures Ignazio La Russa. And Salvini, immediately: “Eh but I’m leaving in ten minutes, I have Italo’s train at 11.26, which is the only way to get to Rome.”
The Northern League secretary therefore begins to speak and leaves at 11.16. Coldness in the room, tense looks, people nervously checking their cell phones first and then their watches. Then La Russa goes out and answers the phone to Daniela Santanché: “Salvini is gone by now, he hasn’t even listened to the others, not even the mayor”, that is Luca Bernardo. And then, approaching the Milanese MEP of Fdi Carlo Fidanza, he whispers: “It’s shameful.” Meloni will arrive at 11.25, while the pediatrician speaks.
