For a while, the Savoyard flag waved from the Massimo Mila refuge in Ceresole Reale. Until last Saturday, when the flag was lowered during a singular “ceremony”, to be replaced by the tricolor. Unavoidable decision, the one taken by the manager of the refuge, Roberto Menzio, who a few days earlier (as well as the municipality of the pearl of the Graian Alps) had received a letter in the name of the Anpi di Favria – Oglianico – Rivarolo section in which the representatives of the Association National Partisans of Italy complained about that cumbersome “presence”.

“The Massimo Mila refuge can be assimilated to a public and non-private space – the underlining, on behalf of the Anpi, by Riccardo Cerrano and Giampiero Cassulo -, is named after one of the most important intellectual exponents of the Piedmontese Resistance, and Ceresole includes significant episodes of the War of Liberation, including the tragedy of Galisia and the pitched battle of August 1944 ». Therefore, according to the association, it is inappropriate for the tricolor of the Kingdom of Italy to stand out from the refuge, hence the explicit request to remove it with the display, instead, of the Italian flag. “We hope to resolve the issue without having to involve institutional authorities or offices in charge of enforcing the regulations in force” the wish of the Anpi.

Menzio adapted, but not before replying to the Partisans Association. “Both my partner and I, Federico Cusinato, are convinced anti-fascists – remarks the manager of the Mila -, but I would like to underline that those who have noticed this” anomaly “, instead of mounting a case, could have entered the refuge, reported it, and we would have resolved the issue without the need for mail exchange. I imagine, however, that the Anpi, in a period of xenophobic and neo-fascist regurgitation, has much more important commitments to which to pay attention. I hope to be able to take sides with the association when it wants to undertake these noble actions ».
And on Saturday, in front of the Mila, the lowering of the flag of the Savoyard banner took place (present, as well as the crown of the House of Savoy, in the coat of arms of the Municipality of Ceresolino, as well as in that of Venaria Reale, the only cases in Italy), complete with appropriate music, including the Mameli Hymn for the “ascent” of the Italian flag. –
