China News Agency, Beijing, March 2 (Reporter Wang Enbo) Guo Shuqing, chairman of the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission, said in Beijing on the 2nd that he does not approve of unilaterally initiated financial sanctions, and “we will not participate in such sanctions.”

At the press conference of the State Council Information Office held on the same day, a reporter asked: Relevant countries have recently introduced sanctions against Russia. Will China also introduce relevant financial measures? What impact will the relevant measures have on China’s economy and finance?

Guo Shuqing said that the position of the Chinese government has been fully expounded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and our international policy is consistent. As far as financial sanctions are concerned, we do not agree with sanctions, especially unilaterally initiated sanctions, because they are not effective and have little legal basis.

“We will not participate in such sanctions, and we will continue to maintain normal economic and trade and financial exchanges with relevant parties.” Guo Shuqing said.

Regarding the impact of the relevant sanctions on China’s economy and finance, Guo Shuqing said that it does not seem to be too obvious now and needs to be observed. “But overall we don’t think there will be much impact in the future because our economy and finances are very solid and resilient.”
