Change the plaque on the door by writing “councilor”, insults and applause on social networks

by admin

The gesture was simple: change the councilor’s plate on the door of his office and replace it with a more feminist “councilor”. And then share the photo on your Instagram profile – followed by just over 4,700 people – with the caption: “Piece by piece”. The new councilor for Civic Services, Partecipazione Trasparenza of the Municipality of Milan, Gaia Romani, certainly did not think of making all this noise by posting a photo that, due to her feminist background, seemed “absolutely normal”.

Yet for two days he has received both insults on social media – even if, he specifies, “in part minimal” – and supportive comments. As proof that the “linguistic” theme on the gender issue is of great interest. Meanwhile, the photo on Instagram has collected 3800 likes and 300 comments, while on Facebook the numbers are even higher: 7400 likes, 2600 comments and 400 shares of the post from its official page. And even his private profile was studded with tags and comments, some positive and some negative. «I asked to replace the plaque on the door of my office – wrote on Facebook the 25 year old Romani, the youngest councilor of the Sala junta and one of the youngest in Italy – because the change starts from small actions. It’s a message I care a lot about and so here we are, piece by piece ».

Romani, on the other hand, despite her young age, has always had feminist issues at heart: in 2018 she was elected coordinator of the Democratic Women of the Metropolitan city of Milan. And also her political career, which began about 10 years ago in the Democratic Party, continued as Councilor of Municipality 8 and culminated with the election in October – where she collected 2,201 preferences, fourth in the party, in front of former councilors – has always been characterized by actions aimed at gender equality.
