China-Laos Railway opens and operates the “full moon”: unblocking China-ASEAN logistics channels to activate the tourism economy along the line

CCTV News: On January 3, the China-Laos Railway opened a “full moon”, and the passenger and freight volume steadily increased, and a brilliant “transcript” was handed in.

According to the latest statistics from China Railway Group, China-Laos Railway has sent a total of 670,000 passengers. Among them, the number of passengers sent in a single day in the domestic segment increased from 19,000 at the time of opening to a maximum of 33,000, and the number of passengers sent in a single day in the foreign segment increased from 1,000 at the time of opening to a maximum of more than 2,600.

The opening of the China-Laos Railway put an end to the history of impossibility of railways between Pu’er and Xishuangbanna in Yunnan, and vigorously activated the tourism economy along the route. Tourist orders for Pu’er and Xishuangbanna increased by 92.4% and 59.9% month-on-month respectively.

The China-Laos Railway has opened a new era of railway transportation in Laos. Freight trains go directly from Kunming to Vientiane, and the transportation time and cost are significantly reduced compared with roads.

Since the opening of the China-Laos Railway, a total of 380 freight trains have been operated, delivering 170,000 tons of freight. In addition to Kunming, more than 10 cities in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Yangtze River Delta and other regions have successively opened international freight trains on the China-Laos Railway, building a convenient logistics channel between China and ASEAN. With the entry into force of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP), the freight volume of China-Laos railways will continue to grow steadily. On January 10, after the national railway map adjustment, the number of EMU trains planned for the China-Laos Railway will reach 28, and the number of freight trains will increase to 12, making it more convenient for people to travel along the line and cross-border transportation of goods, and smoothing the new China-ASEAN logistics channel.
