According to the “Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention Weekly Report (English)”, as of August 15, Shandong has reported two confirmed cases of anthrax in Binzhou, one case was a 14-year-old student who had died; the other case was a 35-year-old man engaged in slaughter work , Is being treated in isolation.
According to the report, on July 28, the 14-year-old student suddenly developed symptoms such as fever, fatigue, retching, diarrhea, and convulsions. On July 31, he experienced sudden unconsciousness, tetanus, and neck during infusion in the village clinic. Stiff and other symptoms, died in Binzhou Medical University Hospital on August 6.
Shandong officials implemented a 12-day quarantine measure on some close contacts of the two confirmed cases. As of August 24, a total of more than 4,700 close contacts have been “preventively administered.”
Anthracnose is an infectious disease caused by Bacillus anthracis, among which pulmonary anthracnose is the most serious, with a fatality rate of up to 85% after human infection. Another type of skin anthrax is the most common. If it cannot be treated in time, the mortality rate is about 24%.
Recently, Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi, Liaoning and Ningxia have all reported cases of anthrax. Lu media quoted official reports as saying that the incidence of anthrax in China this year was significantly higher than the average of the previous three years, and clusters of epidemics appeared in some provinces.
On August 25, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Communist Party of China held a “National Anthrax Prevention and Control Technology Training Video Conference” in response to “frequent anthrax cluster epidemics.”
