On September 24, the 48th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council discussed the Venezuelan and Belarus issues under relevant topics. Ambassador Chen Xu, the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations in Geneva, pointed out that human rights should not be used to achieve political goals. China opposes interference in Venezuela, Belarusian internal affairs.
Chen Xu stated that China upholds a consistent and clear position on the Venezuelan issue, insists on upholding the UN Charter and the basic norms of international relations, insists on respecting the development path independently decided by the Venezuelan people, and supports Venezuelan ruling and opposition parties in seeking a political solution within the constitutional framework. Resolutely oppose the interference of external forces in Venezuela’s internal affairs. At present, the new crown pneumonia epidemic continues to spread, and the unilateral coercive measures of the United States have greatly hindered the Venezuelan people’s access to vaccines, medicines and other medical and epidemic prevention materials, and seriously harmed the well-being and basic human rights of the Venezuelan people. China urges the United States to cancel the illegal unilateral coercive measures against Venezuela as soon as possible.
Chen Xu stated that China has always respected the development path chosen by the Belarusian people based on their own national conditions, and respected the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Belarus. China believes that the Belarusian people can maintain political stability and social tranquility through their own efforts, and hopes that the international community will play a constructive role in this regard.
Chen Xu pointed out that some countries have their own serious human rights problems, but under the pretext of “democracy” and “human rights”, they frequently interfered in foreign countries, creating turmoil and wars. During the new crown pneumonia epidemic, they still strengthened illegal unilateral coercive measures and seriously harmed the human rights of the people in the victimized countries. The international community should jointly oppose the politicization of human rights issues and interference in the internal affairs of other countries under the pretext of human rights.
