The countdown to present the dossier has started and Nicola di Tullio and Fabrizio Fasani also join the committee
ASOLO. Asolo’s run-up to the title of Italian capital of culture 2024 has definitely entered the last mile. Yesterday in the municipal seat of the city of the “hundred horizons”, the mayor Mauro Migliorini met the two consultants, Nicola di Tullio and Fabrizio Fasani, who will have the responsibility of drafting the candidacy dossier. The two specialists, holders of a highly respected curricular path, also collaborated in the initiative that allowed Matera to become, in 2019, the European capital of culture. The deputy mayor Franco Dalla Rosa, the municipal councilor for tourism Gerardo Pessetto and the other members of the scientific committee who will follow the procedure for the candidacy also participated in the meeting.
The dossier, in support of Asolo’s proposal, will have to be articulated over a length of no more than sixty pages and will contain the peculiarities and medium and long-term projects for the cultural development of the territory. It must be supported by an economic-financial prospectus in support of the initiative and presented by October 19 to the evaluation commission of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. «This meeting», explained the Mayor Migliorini, «was aimed at taking stock of the construction process of the dossier. We met the technical-scientific committee in order to discuss the state of things and to plan the work for next month, in view of the official presentation ».
Asolo, which historically owes to Venice the characteristic of a privileged village, is also known abroad for the cultural renaissance wanted by Caterina Cornaro, former queen of Cyprus, who in the fifteenth century was forced to leave the island and retire to the hilly city. The castle became a royal residence where artists, poets and writers from all over Italy were hosted. The Asolo area saw the presence of the writer Pietro Bembo, a very young Giorgione worked there, and was also appreciated by intellectuals from beyond the Alps such as the poet Eugene Benson or the writer Ernest Hemingway. Eleonora Duse, theater actress and muse of Gabriele d’Annuzio, who wanted to be buried in Asolo, rests in the city cemetery of Sant’Anna.
«In this last period», added the mayor, «the strengths of the city and of the entire territory of the Grappa foothills have been identified. We analyzed what Asolo was, what it is now and what it can become in the near future ». In the autumn, the baton will pass to the commission that will select the ten finalist cities. The last lap of the track will be covered next year when, around June, the winner will be decreed who will be able to claim the title of “Italian Capital of Culture 2024”.
