Coinciding with Blinken’s visit, China warns of the danger of US military support for Taiwan

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi speaks during a press conference in Beijing – Reuters.

China warned on Wednesday that US military support for Taiwan increases the risk of conflict in the Taiwan Strait after Congress allocated $8 billion in military aid to Taipei.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said: “I would like to stress that the United States and Taiwan strengthening their military relations will not bring security to Taiwan.”

He added: “This would increase tensions and the risk of conflict across the Taiwan Strait.”

This comes as US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, arrived in China on his second visit to this country in less than a year.

Blinken’s visit aims to increase pressure on Beijing on various issues, including its support for Russia, while seeking to establish more stability in relations between the two countries.

Blinken’s plane landed in Shanghai for the first stop of his visit, during which he will meet businessmen and students.
