Bilateral collaboration agreement between the Italian and Spanish competition and market authorities. The aim of the agreement is to promote the sharing of experiences and best practices between the two bodies and the joint work on identifying cartels and conducting antitrust investigations and actions to promote competition in both countries.
The memorandum of understanding was signed on Wednesday in Madrid by the president of the Cnmc (Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia), Cani Fernández, and by the president of the Agcm (Competition and Market Authority), Roberto Rustichelli, to promote the strategic cooperation of the institutions.
According to Fernández: «Fighting cartels, eradicating abuses of dominant position and making sure that markets function properly and guide the economic growth of our countries are issues we have in common with our Italian counterparts. With the signing of the Memorandum, Cnmc strengthens its strategic cooperation with the Agcm, which I am confident will begin to bear fruit quickly ».
For his part, Rustichelli said he was confident that “relations between the two institutions will develop further, promote positive interaction to better defend competition and keep our attention, especially now, on the structural reforms of sectoral regulations in Europe. We both have the goal of protecting the free market to help bring economic prosperity to our countries ”.
The MoU also includes the regular coordination of positions during European regulatory reform procedures, considers the possibility of conducting joint antitrust campaigns in Spain and Italy, and promotes cooperation through bilateral technical assistance, visits and expert training programs.
