The Juventus and national team champion made his closeness to his family felt during the months of the illness of his first coach, who died on Monday
CONEGLIANO «Mister don’t give up, as you taught me». Touched words, with which Alessandro Del Piero had already accompanied a video sent via WhatsApp to Professor Umberto Prestia in September, as soon as the champion had learned of the precarious health conditions of his first coach. A video that had moved Umberto Prestia and his whole family, which yesterday revealed this great sign of affection from the champion. The coach lasted for a few months, before passing away on Monday in the Cesana Malanotti retirement home, surrounded by the affection of his loved ones.
After the news of the death of Prestia, who died at 85, spread yesterday, Alessandro Del Piero yesterday sent a message of condolence and closeness to the family through his brother Stefano, also a former footballer (also Sampdoria and Pievigina). And this afternoon at 3 pm the final farewell will be given to the professor-coach in the parish church of San Martino. He was therefore the first coach of Del Piero, he had made him grow up in the Pulcini, creating a friendship that has always remained over time, as confirmed by the attention with which Alex has followed the professor’s illness. Del Piero has never forgotten the teacher who had taught him how to kick and score with a left foot. In addition to San Vendemiano, where he had spent most of his career as a youth coach, Prestia had been a “coach educator” in Calcio Codognè and in Campolongo. He leaves his daughters Paola and Patrizia and other family members. “We thank everyone, from footballers to alumni and the many people who have brought us their closeness – says daughter Paola – fill the immense void for the loss of their father”.
