ROME. The administration of the third dose of anti-Covid vaccine in Italy started from Rieti: the ASL – informs a note – administered the serum to 40 vulnerable people during the day ». These are solid organ transplant recipients who had already completed their first vaccination course in the past few months.
“The people – underlines the local health authority – were contacted directly for the administration of the vaccine in a third dose. The Local Health Authority has already planned the administration of the additional dose, defining a detailed program of vulnerable subjects who will be vaccinated ».
From next Monday, September 20, the administration of the third dose of the anti-Covid vaccine will also start in Lombardy. To announce it, a SkyTg24, was the vice president Letizia Moratti who explained that the third injection will be made to “150 thousand people: chemotherapy, transplant patients, people with HIV and high-dose drug users”. Moratti also reiterated his “satisfaction as vice president and councilor for welfare of the Lombardy Region for having exceeded 80 for the complete vaccination class for the vaccinable population” which is 8,966,991 people. “I emphasized the great sensitivity and civic sense of the Lombards who have suffered so much from Covid and I have especially applauded the twenty-year-olds who responded to our vaccination campaign with 89 percent support”.
The need for the inoculation of the third dose of vaccine had emerged in the past few weeks in particular for the more fragile categories. “In these days we are talking about the third dose and Minister Speranza – said the extraordinary commissioner for the Covid-19 emergency, General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo – has already given indications on this subject. Basically we will start as early as September with those who are defined as immune-compromised, that is, those people who need help with the response for the immune system ». The general specified that “it will be a recall, a classic” booster “dose and we are calculating that it will be aimed at an audience of about 3 million people”. And it was to them “at the end of July that the Technical Scientific Committee had already given indications on taking a booster dose and now the Cts of Aifa is expressing itself”. Figliuolo also explained that “we are working in full synergy and really well with all the Regions and Provinces. Afterwards, according to the indications of the CTS, it is likely that we will go to vaccinate the elderly, the RSA and the health professionals. We are ready, the doses are there and then we go on ».
For Massimo Galli, director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic of the Sacco hospital in Milan, «the third dose is welcome, but we are not sure that those who have not responded to the first two doses will respond to the THIRD. We should first understand how many antibodies against the Sars-CoV-2 virus there are in the body. For those who have responded well to the vaccine, the third dose is not essential, but this important aspect is not always taken into consideration ».
