Coronavirus, the RT drops to 0.92, the incidence of infections decreasing to 64 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants

In the period 18 – 31 August 2021, the national average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases of Covid decreased, which was equal to 0.92 (range 0.79 – 1.02), therefore below the epidemic threshold. The previous week it recorded a value equal to 0.97. The encouraging data can be read in the weekly monitoring prepared by the Higher Institute of Health and the Ministry of Health on the progress of the new coronavirus pandemic.

The incidence of contagion per 100 thousand inhabitants drops to 64

The weekly incidence at the national level also decreased: 64 per 100 thousand inhabitants on 30 August and 5 September, compared to 74 per 100 thousand inhabitants recorded between 23 and 29 August. The incidence remains above the weekly threshold of 50 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants which could allow the control of transmission based on containment or on the identification of cases and the tracing of their contacts.

Occupations in the medical and intensive care area are still slightly increasing

The ICU employment rate is still rising slightly to 6.2%, with the number of people admitted rising from 544 (Aug. 31) to 563 (Sept. 7). Moderate risk for Lombardy, Fvg and the province of Bolzano

The moderate risk regions drop from 17 to three: Lombardy, Friuli Venezia Giulia and the province of Bolzano are classified at moderate risk, according to the ministerial decree of 30 April 2020. The remaining 18 regions and autonomous provinces are classified as low risk. Only the province of Bolzano reports a resilience alert. None have multiple resilience alerts.

Delta remains the prevailing variant in the country

The circulation of the delta variant is prevalent in Italy. The variant is also dominant in the European Union and associated with an increase in the number of new cases of infection even in countries with high vaccination coverage.
