Sonora man arrested after causing the death of his partner’s toddler

GLENDALE – The Glendale Police Department was called to a tragic scene on Thursday, February 8 when a 911 call was placed by the mother of Ian Alejandro García Machado, a one-year and nine-month-old toddler, who was found unresponsive at a local CVS. Unfortunately, García Machado was pronounced dead upon arrival at Banner Thunderbird Hospital.

A detailed investigation revealed that the toddler’s mother, María Machado Pérez, and her partner, Francisco Félix-Higuera, were responsible for the abuse that ultimately led to García Machado’s death. The court documents divulged a disturbing pattern of ongoing abuse inflicted on the young child.

The investigation found that Félix-Higuera had caused severe injuries to the toddler, and the mother, Machado Pérez, failed to protect her son from the abuse. Both have been charged in connection with the case; Machado Pérez is facing a charge of child abuse while Félix-Higuera is charged with first-degree murder.

The autopsy report revealed that García Machado suffered from severe injuries, including internal bleeding, fractures, and various other trauma, indicating a horrifying pattern of abuse that led to his untimely death.

The disturbing details of the case have shocked the community and left many questioning how such a young child could have suffered such severe abuse. The case underlines the importance of early detection and intervention in cases of child abuse and draws attention to the need for support systems for victims of domestic violence and child abuse.

The tragic death of García Machado has sparked a call to action for better education and prevention strategies to ensure the safety and protection of vulnerable children. The community mourns the loss of García Machado and stands in solidarity against child abuse and domestic violence.
